Architectural Innovation
Traditionally, building shapes were restricted
by elevators that can only move vertically;
now this restriction is lifted and circular,
arched, and spiral buildings are born.
Self-propelled linear motor elevators can travel along curved tracks. Since conventional elevators can only move in a straight line, it can be said that the basic shape of modern construction was decided because a vertical straight line path for the elevator was indispensable in the center of the building. With linear motors and elevators, there is no need to provide such straight lines, and the era in which elevators constrain the shape of buildings is over. The day will come when the free appearance of the near-future city seen in the science fiction movie will finally become a reality.
