The self-propelled linear motor elevator will be able to share the same hoistway (shaft) with other elevators. Not only the space is shared, but also the linear motor stator, various equipment of the hoistway, the landing, etc. are shared and can be used efficiently. Since many elevator cages can operate in the same hoistway, we can save about 50-60% of the area occupied by elevators, as compared to a conventional elevator system. We will be able to effectively use the precious land in the city center. Furthermore, the user will see elevators arrive at the same landing one after another, greatly improving transportation capacity and serviceability.
